  1. In Germany we had elections 10 weeks ago. Different parties have been negotiating til 2 weeks ago or so. I was a bit interested in what's going on there and found out that they negotiated shutting down 5-7 coal power plants.

So it seems we are really emerging from the age of coal over here. Not so long ago I had to shovel coal in my parents cellar as a kid. That was 23 years ago but of courese in the east and former socialist part of Germany (which was not that good developed as West Germany). Now they all have gas heating. I wonder what improvements we are going to see next.

  2. Putin is paying attention. At a recent televised meeting of the Russian Council of Ministers he asked about the World Bank's Doing Business Report:
'Why are we doing so badly?' And the Minister of Energy is, you know, a bit befuddled; and he says, 'Well, we are better than our neighbors.' Which is Kazakhstan, Belarus, not the best business environment in the world. President Putin looks at him and says, 'You should also compare to some other countries that are better than that.' He pauses, looks at him, and says, 'And if you don't, I know who can.'

  3. Excellent over-view on Russian market. I just have Norilsk Nickel and Gasprom. Good to keep tap on geopolitical situation. Thanks
